The University of Arizona Mucking Team is proud to announce that we will be hosting the 48th Annual Intercollegiate Mining Games Competition in March 2026!
We are so excited to bring competitors from around the globe to sunny Arizona. The teams will have the opportunity to compete at our student-run mine, San Xavier Underground Mining Laboratory.

2025 Intercollegiate Mining Games
The International Collegiate Mining Competition started in 1978, in honor and remembrance of the fallen miners from the Sunshine Mine disaster as well as all miners who have perished in the line of duty. The goal of the competition is to keep the old-fashioned mining techniques alive, as well as strengthen the camaraderie of the mining students of today. Being the largest event of its kind in the world, it is highly competitive, and there is a great amount of prestige for the winners. In the past, universities and colleges from all over the United States of America, Mexico, Canada, England, and Australia have been represented in the competition.

2024 Intercollegiate Mining Games
Members of the WoMine Team (from 2023)
In March 2024, we were able to send three teams to Butte, Montana - a men, a women’s, and a co-ed team! It was quite the travel, but all teams had a blast.
Our Men’s team placed 1st in gold pan!
Our Co-Ed team placed 2nd over all, taking 1st in Track Stand and Mucking!
Our Women’s team placed 2nd in Survey and 3rd in Gold Pan!
